Fog engulfed the path. The wet air was filled with the scent of cedar and pine. Suddenly the sun broke through as the fog lifted. I felt like I was in a cathedral with light piercing through stained glass. At that moment I was filled with such awe I couldn’t imagine anything more beautiful.
Using a photo for reference I sketched the trees on dark grey, sanded paper. Reliving the memory, I wanted to keep everything in black and white – the way it appeared while the fog was there. To finish it I added thick, solid areas of white that pushed through the branches to give the painting electricity, energy and life. Lastly, color. Just a little bit. Just the way it appeared on that magical morning. - C. Obers
